About

On Photography

Thanks to my mum, who has been a passionate photographer herself (thanks to her father before that) since the day I remember, photography has always been a very important part of my life.

As I see it, Photography is a study of how light and shadow affects everything around us and our own and individual interpretation of the meaning of life, death and the universe as we know it. To me it is also a discipline of painting with light and the magic of capturing the moment. I love monochrome studies that evoke deep emotions, while cutting through shallow appearances.

In the past I worked as a freelance photographer doing weddings, functions, PR, portraits and commercial work. I also spent over five years working in professional darkrooms (photo laboratories) as a printer specialising in exhibition and gallery displays. During that time I experimented and learned quite a bit about non digital post processing which has been of great assistance in regard to embracing the modern digital processes.

I have also been part of a number of photographic exhibitions both in Australia and Europe, experiences that I have thoroughly enjoyed and plan on repeating in the near future. The current theme that I’m working on is titled Australian Seascapes and the current plan is to exhibit a collection of my select images in the first half of 2009.

Currently my focus is on micro-stock commercial photography with the bulk of my images being sold through ShutterStock, Fotolia, iStock and Dreamstime. As part of this I do free photo shoots of anyone in return for the signing of a model release form. A model release is a document which enables me to sell the photos under a royalty free licence. If you wish to arrange a free photo session, email me at chris@meder.net

My tools of choice are Canon 40D with an assortment of lenses, ranging from the wide angle to the telephoto. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy my work :)
